As much as the title of this blog is true, I really don’t care. Plus, she had some Justin Timberlake wannabe on her show, which was even more of a turn off for me. But if you enjoyed it, more power to ya.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been noticing a common thread across several blogs that I frequently…. frequent? I think that in order to be a successful blog, not only do I have to keep up a schedule of updating it (my apologies to anyone who has been coming and finding no satisfaction in the form of a new entry), but I also need to pick a theme. This theme doesn’t need to be in EVERY entry that I right, but people can be like, “Have you been to that BlackRimmedGlasses.com blog? They have some pretty cool stuff on….” You get the idea. Well, in order to have a theme, I need to pick a one. Should it be electronics? Fun little gadgets that make your life either easier or a living hell? Or maybe it should be music. I should highlight different artists that are releasing new cd’s or huge concerts. That would be fun. I like both of those. Or maybe I should just keep the “theme” I have now. Nothing. Whatever I wanna talk about is free game. Eh, I don’t know. This is so hard!

In other news, I don’t know if I posted this in an earlier entry but, I got a new car. A 2008 Scion xB.
I love this thing. I know it’s ugly most of the world, but it’s the first car that I have ever had that I feel “cool” in. So now I have Helio, who’s demographic is GenX and has only three models of phones, and a Scion, who’s demographic is GenX and has only three models of cars.

Two things:

1. My back hurts for some reason and it REALLY needs to go away.

and

2. There’s a rumor that the new iMacs and iPods are going to be released on August 7th.  This is a segue for tonight’s entry.

They’re a little seperated, but there are two separate pictures of me on Space Mountain in my Flickr album that I particularly enjoy. I think you will too. The top picture in my Flickr sidebar is one, all you have to do is click on it. Enjoy!

Ladies and Gentleman, boys and girls, I am in Phoenix. I am in Arizona. I am home. HOORAY! This is a great time for me. The only thing is that my girlfriend wasn’t able to come with me. She has summer school and stuff, so it’s understandable. If any of you who know me and live in Phoenix, call me. I would love to hang out. Or if anybody doesn’t know me, but still wants to hang out, just leave a comment and we’ll get together.

It’s two in the morning, so I will have to wait till tomorrow (otherwise known as later today) to give you guys a full run down of the recent events.  You know what the crazy thing is though?  The guy that I’m staying with tonight has a dog that seems like it’s constantly on a ecstasy high.  Seriously, I think I’m going to stab this dog in the jugular.  Sorry, sorry, maybe  that was a little bit too harsh.  But seriously, I’m gonna choke this dog.  Anyway, this next one is going to be good, so stay tuned.  Same bat channel, same bat time.

Two things:
1. It feels surreal to be in Phoenix, but it’s awesome.

2. I just played Guitar Hero II till two in the morning. Ugh…

Hello!  Here I am!  Nice to meet you, my name is Chris and I run this here Bed and Breakfast…..

*squiggly*squiggly*squiggly* (that’s the enter/exit dream sequence effect)

Woah!  I have no idea where that came from.  I should get checked or something because that is just NOT normal!

Well, apart from thinking of titles that have nothing to do with the actual entry itself and then trying to excuse them by pretending it was a dream sequence, I have nothing.  Don’t you hate those times where you just got done with something big, like a summer vacation, and then there’s something else big, like going home to Phoenix, but there’s just over a week in between the two and you’re stuck whittling your thumbs.  Man this sucks.

Whittling?  Is it twittling?  Dingaling?  Uh, this is confusing.

So, I watched two movies today.  One was Poseidon and the other was The Bourne Supremacy.  Although neither was mind-blowingly awesome, I think that if you stood them side-by-side, you could definitely see which one was based on a novel and which one wasn’t  Poseidon, although it being a movie that never really lost my attention, was a movie that counted on the explosions and wet women to do that.  (I’m not saying I was staring at the wet women…. Oh wow, I really got myself into a bind on this one.  I hope my girlfriend isn’t reading!)  It had a weak plot, if any at all, which consisted of a group of 10 tries to escape a capsized cruise ship.  Yeah, you could probably get the entire movie from those few sentences.

The Bourne Supremacy was, ok.  You could tell it was a book, but they just didn’t transfer it from the pages to the screen very well.  Again, not a bad movie, but it seemed to be dwelling on one thing the entire movie that could have been resolved in the first fifteen minutes.  Had a pretty good twist though.  Maybe it was because I was tired.  I don’t know.

My girlfriend bought Stranger Than Fiction today though, and I’m VERY excited about that.  If you haven’t seen that wonderful piece of cinematography, I highly recommend that you do.  You won’t regret it.  Let’s just say that this movie probably did for Will Ferrel what The Truman Show did for Jim Carrey.  Prove that he can act and act well.

For my closing, I think that I’m going to adopt a practice that my friend Laura Trujillo uses to conclude her blogs.  It is two points that have nothing to do with the entry.  So here goes.

Two things:
1. The World Series of Pop Culture rocks
and
2. I need to get glasses again.

I just noticed that the site that used to be at www.blackrimmedglasses.com is now only an index.  This means that we might be moving to that address soon!  Hopefully I can move fast enough to where I can snatch this domain.  Just wanted to let you guys know.

I realized something as I was driving back from Orange Country to San Diego today. One of the biggest days of the year has just passed and I did not bother to write about it. I can’t believe that I can be so irresponsible! I mean, I haven’t really been updating this thing everyday as of late, but this was a subject that deserved at least one full entry to itself! Well, wihout futher adieu, ladies and gentlemen, I bring you, the post about the iPHONE!

I really don’t think that July 29th, a week ago, could have come at a more unfortunate time. I mean, I was out of the country for Pete’s sake! I was in south Mexico and there I was, with even the Mexican papers staring me in the face about the most awesome commercial product ever to be realeased. When the Miami Hearld (Cancun Edition) has a story on the front page, you know that it’s huge, headlining news.

I made it through a weekend of not being able to play with my favorite company’s prized product, though. As soon as I got back home, I dropped off my bags in my room (more like threw) and headed off to the supermarket. With one half-hour stop at my local Apple Store, of course.

[Now, take everything I say from here on out with a grain of salt because I have only tested the iPhone in store, therefore making my opinion VERY biased. At the Apple Store, they have an open wireless network, making the EDGE speeds of the AT&T network seem far faster than they actually are, and I wan't able to listen to music or make phone calls. So please, if you have an iPhone and your having problems with it then you read this, please, take into consideration that I am in no way, shape, or phone a credible reviewer. I am a fanboy and do not claim to be anything else. With that said, let the lauding begin.]

I must say, it really didn’t disappoint. Every function I tested worked flawlessly. I was most afraid that the multi-touch interface was going to be very hard to get used to, but it really is as simple as they say it is. Just flick your finger to scroll quick or drag it slowly to be able to pinpoint exactly what you need to select. This is one of the big features of the iPhone. Like with most Apple products, it’s claim to fame is is ease of use and with the iPhone, it definitely lives up to its repuatation. I commend Apple on this.

One of the really big things for me is that when you are listening to music and want to surf on the internet, the music keeps going. Great, GREAT feature. I know that there are other phones that do this too, but I have never had one and when you select a song and play it, then click the “Home” button, it seems as if there is nothing running in the background. I don’t think I could have designed it better myself.

Internet was good. I am used the the normal, crippled cell phone browser, so of course it blew anything that I have ever used in the past out of the water, but an amazing browser doesn’t make up for frustratingly slow data speeds on the EDGE network AT&T offers. Thankfully, nowadays theres an open internet network almost everywhere so if you really need to use the internet, you could just walk a block or two to find an open wireless network.

As far as the phone aspect of the iPhone goes, unfortunately, I can’t say much. I just wasn’t able to test it because I wasn’t able to make phone calls. Apple is making this product to be a PHONE FIRST. Many reviews have labeled this device as being an “iPod with phone functionality”. This shouldn’t be the case is Apple is still selling the Fifth and a half generation iPod in the same store. Hopefully in the near future I will be able to see how easy it is to use it as a phone. One thing I did play around with is the dial pad. I had read that dialing a number straight into the iPhone was an annoyingly long and arduous process, but I must say that it’s just two clicks away from the home screen. It was very easy to get to and the buttons were large and very easy to type in without making mistakes.

Reports have surged about people having problems with the iPhone and even tonight I was given advice by the guy next to me in the movie theater about how I shouldn’t get the iPhone because of all the problems people are having and huge recalls. Now, I haven’t heard of recalls, so we’ll discard that part, but concerning the problems people are having…. What did people expect? It’s the first release of a major, overly-hyped product. The first few shipments are practically free beta testers for the company. I dare anyone to name me one product that has been released to this scale and to this anticipation that didn’t have its quirks. It’ll all get worked out sooner or later, if not by the second generation.

So, is the iPhone worth the 600 smack-a-roos you have to lay down for it?  I say, “maybe”.  It really all depends.  I would probably hand over the money, but I really don’t wanna pay the ETF for my current contract, so for now, I’ll stick with what I’ve got.

I know that I said I’d be writing in here again, and I have yet to come through, but there’s a surprising amount of work that needs to be done when you come back from a vacation!  Pics from said vacation should be up in my flickr, so you can just click on the sidebar on this website and it’ll take you to it.

I am starting (officially) the recording process for some songs before the end of the summer for my band Robot Parade.  It seems to be going slowly, but I’d rather be slow and end up with something that is quality rather than being hasty and getting a bad result.  The only bad thing is that I’m sick.  I’m pretty sure I’m coming down with a cold.  So no vocal tracks for now.  I just need to get over this before I go to Phoenix.  I need to have all my energy for Zach’s bachelor party.  Hehe….

Geez, I really don’t feel good.  Sorry that this here entry hasn’t been about social commentary like how Gordon Brown took over the Prime Minister position in Great Britain or the car chase that I saw on the news this morning.  I really do apologize.  Maybe next time?

M.I.A.

30Jun07

I know that I haven’t written in here for a while, and for that I do apologize.  I’ve been vacationing with my family in Cancun and I finally found a computer with Internet in this damn hotel.  Sorry about the cursing.  I guess that I’m still getting over my web withdrawals.  It was probably better that I didn’t have Internet for a week, I’m addicted enough as it is.

Anyway, I need to get back to the hotel room seeing as I have a flight at around 5 in the morning PDT.  I should be posting some pictures in my Flickr account tomorrow night.  You can just click on the little picture boxes on the left to access them when they are up.  OK, goodnight America!

 P.S.

I lost my glasses.  So for now, I’m technically not “BlackRimmedGlasses”, I’m “ThatSquintyEyedChubbyFellow”.  This should be remedied in a week.  God willing.

I Feel

20Jun07

Sometimes, I wonder why God decided to curse us with such horrible
things such as emotions. These things cause turmoil in our lives.
Imagine, if we were being that didn’t feel, so many conflicts could be
avoided. Take World War I for instance. If Austria-Hungary didn’t
retaliate to Archduke Franz Ferdinand being murdered by The Black Hand,
so many lives would have been saved. Or take our current conflict with
our “War On Terrorism”. If we really look at it, 9/11 was something we
had coming. I mean, we deserve to have some humbling as a nation from
one time or the other. Relationships would be o-so-much easier too. You
just pick the one that appeals most to the eye to you. The one that
satisfies your physical needs the best. Like would be a simple, life-less
vacuum.

And it would be awesome.

But think about it. REALLY think about
our emotions. How satisfying is it when you feel the soft stroke of
your loved ones hand on yours and you feel that warm tingle inside? How
great does it feel to watch a movie and connect with the characters in
the movie so that you’re getting upset when the protagonist gets
backstabbed by his or her best friend? Emotions are what gives us
humans the power to continue from day to day. Emotions are the things
that make us feel proud of our son as he drives the game winning run
home. It is what makes us stay up late at night because we don’t know
what might happen the next day. It’s that righteous anger that we feel
when we hear a pastor say that we are sinners for dancing or listening
to Jack Johnson. The touch. The feel. The sound. The feelings.

Sure,
life would be easier without emotions, but it sure wouldn’t be so
satisfying. As for me, I pick the life with turmoil that will leave me
a blessed man in the end.

Early Wake Up

16Jun07

It’s currently 5:18 in the morning.  This definitely beats any time that I’ve gotten up since school got out by at least two hours.  Why?  I wanna go to Disneyland.
